How to Convert
Begin your journey to Judaism with Maas Center for Jewish Journeys.
Judaism is a living, vibrant tradition, full of wisdom and community. Your journey into it can be deeply personal, and at the Maas Center for Jewish Journeys, we will be with you every step of the way — guiding, supporting, and celebrating your progress.
Explore these four steps toward conversion.
Step 1: Learn About Judaism
Start your journey with exploration and discovery. The Miller Introduction to Judaism course offers 18 engaging sessions — online or in your local community — covering:
- Jewish beliefs and values
- Holidays and rituals
- Jewish history and culture
- Prayer, ethics, and daily practices
This is a safe, welcoming space to ask questions, reflect, and begin building your understanding of Jewish life.
Step 2: Find a Rabbi
Judaism is a journey best traveled with guidance. A sponsoring rabbi will:
- Support your learning and growth
- Help you apply Jewish practices in daily life
- Guide you toward your conversion ceremony when the time is right
Your rabbi becomes your partner, mentor, and cheerleader on this meaningful journey.
Step 3: Join a Jewish Community
Judaism is lived in community. Engaging with a synagogue, Jewish center, or local group allows you to:
- Celebrate holidays and Shabbat with others
- Connect with Jewish friends and mentors
- Experience the warmth, rhythm, and joy of Jewish life
Being part of a community makes your journey richer and helps the teachings come alive in daily life.
Step 4: Celebrate Your Conversion
The final step is a joyful, meaningful ceremony. Together with your rabbi, you will:
- Meet a Beit Din (panel of welcoming rabbis)
- Participate in ritual immersion in a mikvah, symbolizing your entry into the Jewish people
This moment is a celebration of your learning, growth, and commitment — a true beginning of your Jewish life.
