Campus Safety
American Jewish University is committed to maintaining a safe, secure, and prepared environment for our students, campers, faculty, staff, and visitors. The safety of our campus from both external and internal threats as well as possible natural disasters is taken seriously. View our 2025 Campus Security and Fire Safety Report for more information.
The California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) has publicly and definitively affirmed that the Brandeis-Bardin Campus is safe for use. In its May 2017 Community Update, DTSC stated:
“The Brandeis-Bardin Institute Campus is safe for use by Faculty, Staff, Students, and Campers. Contamination at the Santa Susana Field Laboratory (SSFL) does not pose a health threat to users (e.g., campers, visitors, students, faculty, administrators or staff) of Brandeis-Bardin Institute, or other off-site areas.”
This conclusion is supported by more than 25 years of environmental data and analysis, including studies conducted by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the California Environmental Protection Agency, the California Department of Public Health, and other regulatory agencies. It also includes extensive monitoring conducted by the former Brandeis-Bardin Institute, now American Jewish University.
