This exciting new drama follows the lives of Holocaust heroes like Varian Fry, an American journalist who co-founded the Emergency Rescue Committee, Mary Jayne Gold, a wealthy heiress, and Albert Hirschman, a Jewish-German economist. Anna Winger will be in conversation with AJU’s Rick Richman to share her inspiration behind the series, discuss the challenges of creating a compelling drama based off a true story, and give us a behind-the-scenes look on the making of the show.

Anna Winger is a writer, producer, and creator of the Emmy and Peabody Award-winning series 'Unorthodox' (Netflix) and 'Deutschland83' (Amazon). Her new limited series is 'Transatlantic,' about Varian Fry and the Emergency Rescue Committee, who helped over 2000 refugees escape occupied France in 1940. It premieres on Netflix April 7, 2023. Winger was raised by anthropologists in Kenya, Massachusetts and Mexico. She studied at Columbia and now lives in Berlin with her family.
Rick Richman is a resident scholar at American Jewish University and the author of Racing Against History: The 1940 Campaign for a Jewish Army to Fight Hitler. He graduated with honors from Harvard College and New York University Law School. He has written for Commentary, The Jewish Journal, The Jewish Review of Books, Mosaic Magazine, The New York Post, The New York Sun and other publications, and is the author of the chapter on American Zionism in What America Owes the Jews, What Jews Owe America.
