Graduate Profiles

A few words from students who have found success through their education at AJU.

"Andrew Jackson University's distance education provided the optimal means to pursue and achieve a higher level of education in spite of lengthy military deployments and other duty commitments.  Attending class was not a viable option in my career field.  The Andrew Jackson University staff, both at the academic instructor and the administrative level, was superb and instrumental to my degree completion.  I salute you."

Captain Frank Hellstern Jr.
United States Air Force
Scott Air Force Base, Illinois

Currently serving as the Antiterrorism/Force Protection Program Manager, Captain Frank Hellstern Jr. has spent the past 22 years in Security Forces.  To achieve a higher level of proficiency in his career field, he enrolled in Andrew Jackson University's Master of Criminal Justice program and graduated with a 4.0 GPA.

Frank's new degree allowed him to effectively serve the military and civilian community.  His vast experience and Andrew Jackson University degree prepared him to proactively assess and combat crime and terrorism.  Additionally, his military leadership background coupled with the management courses helped him efficiently direct a 220-person Security Forces Operations section at the onset of the war on terrorism.  Furthermore, his degree provided the knowledge base to co-chair Spokane Police Chief, Roger Bragdon's, committee on Racial Profiling in an effort to enhance police-community relations.

Frank's diligence and success paved the way to his current job at the Air Mobility Command Headquarters.  He was previously selected as the United States Air Force in Europe Security Forces Company Grade Officer of the Year.

“The MBA program with Andrew Jackson University allowed me to pursue my goals while still being able to work full time and balance family life as well. The program was well balanced, engaging, and flexible so I could complete it while traveling for work or after the kids went to bed.”

Lisa Michelle Ploss
Stoughton, MA

It was within the first few years of employment with a small manufacturing
company in MA that Lisa Ploss first decided that an advanced degree would be
beneficial in achieving her professional goals. She soon applied and was
accepted into an MBA program at a local university. However, during the first
class she was feeling somewhat dismayed as the professor outlined the course
syllabus, weekly requirements, group projects, etc. To top it off, when she got
home that evening, the babysitter informed her that five month old had gotten
quite sick. At that moment, the timing just didn’t seem right to embark upon
such a challenging goal. Overwhelmed by the responsibilities of a baby, full-time
job, house, husband, etc., Lisa decided to hold off on pursuing her degree and
withdrew from the program.

Several years and one more child later, Lisa was still intent on obtaining her
MBA. She had read about the growing concept of “Distance Learning” and
started to research that as a plausible option for her. After careful consideration,
she selected Andrew Jackson University and enrolled in their MBA program in
1995. Six years later, Lisa graduated with a 3.75 GPA and was soon promoted
to the position of Executive Vice President within the same manufacturing
company.
